A man who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.
She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he ran.
The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She explained Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor said objects including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepson contacted the police about his concerns.
She stated the defendant continued to play the "candy game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she added.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson called the police a second time.
She said the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
