Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51M spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball announced this represents the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic game averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game recorded over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English program in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game series drew over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total American average reached 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and the network’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen various languages.
